Things to do in Malta This Summer

Planning a summer stay at the Hotel Valentina? Well, you’ve chosen the perfect season to be in Malta, as the island is transformed into one big culture, entertainment and food festival throughout the warm months.

With Malta successfully keeping COVID-19 number at a record-breaking low and the weather being pretty idyllic from May through November, social life on the island has staged a massive return, with an events calendar that is positively pumping.

Outdoor events - many of them free - take place on an almost daily basis. You will be very hard-pressed to visit a town or village on any given day and not find something to tickle your fancy, whether it’s an outdoor film screening or live music - all within the necessary safety parametres.

Culture is big, with the Malta International Arts Festival and the Malta Jazz Festival ranking high on the hot European attractions during summer, bringing over the top names on their respective circuits. This summer is no different and visitors can expect an eclectic choice of top performers from across Europe.

The sister island of Gozo also has its own calendar of events, certainly enough to warrant a quick hop across the channel - why not make a whole day of it and take in the pristine beaches and maybe even a waterside restaurant? There are some true gems where you can even dine on a secluded waters’ edge!

Malta and Gozo are two of the few European destinations where residents and tourists can socialise safely, with COVID-19 regulations relaxed within reason. With Mediterranean, al fresco dining being such a big part of the lifestyle, you will get to enjoy chill dinners under the stars in all peace of mind, and we will be happy to direct you to those iconic spots that are beloved by locals.

A couple of post-dinner drinks - well, or maybe a stronger session as Malta has a strong nightlife culture - are also likely to be on the agenda, now that restrictions for bars are also being lifted.

If your tastes run to something more refined, check out one of the excellent wine-matching tours that are offered by local vintners. With agritourism also gaining in popularity, foodies are likely to enjoy sampling artisan and traditional delicacies, such as sundried tomatoes and sheep milk cheeselets.

During the day you can be as active - or as chill - as you please. If you’re here to destress, why not treat yourself to some real R&R, as you shop the high-street and designer labels, maybe enjoy a stop at the spa, and a spot of swimming and sunbathing at one of the spectacular beaches, or the high-end lidos?

If you’re up to more cerebral pursuits, you can enjoy your fill of gorgeous museums, art galleries and architectural marvels. The capital city of Valletta deserves a day out, and offers the whole package, from culture to some amazing Michelin-star restaurants, to people watching, shopping, and quirky bars for after sundown.

You don’t need to prepare much to enjoy your Maltese summer - pack your sunscreen and your swimsuit, and the island will provide all the rest. And we’ll be happy to make sure that Hotel Valentina offers the perfect base for your summer 2021 vacation.
